Here I am

  • Mood: Happy!?!
  • Movie of the moment: Don't know
  • Quote: Diet Coke...as always...maybe I should change this option;)

Wow...I have actually been busy lately...kind of.  This weekend was a bit uneventful.  I was going to work on my Halloween costume, but my sewing machine was not working.  Just yesterday I went over to my friend Michelle's house and used hers (with her instructing me on how to use it...hey, it HAS been awhile since I used one).  I discovered that I was the problem with my sewing machine...not only did I put the bobbin in wrong, I was trying to sew incorrectly...don't ask me how...only I can find a way to make sewing hard.  So, I have spent the past two nights working on my Halloween costume...and I am still not done; However, I have learned how to sew again...and I am getting better.

So, this Halloween I have decided to go as a Sith, so I am using the Anakin Skywalker pattern for my costume.  While I know that this is a guys pattern/costume, the only Star Wars patterns for girls were a Padme outfit and a skimpy Jedi costume...ha, yeah right!  So, where am I on the costume?  I have the shoulder armor, belt, pants, and boots done...given...I already had the boots and pants, but that is beside the point.

Well, I must take my roommate to work.  More later...along with a complete costume pic...hopefully.

Another weekend is over. :(

This weekend went by fast...they always do.  This weekend I went to the Kansas City Ren Fair and finally got to go see Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

The trip to the Ren Fair was...different, long, and full of idiots on the road.  I love my roommates dearly, but gosh...they are backseat drivers.  I won't go into it here...but I wanted to kiss the ground when we finally arrived.  Also, a note to anyone planning a trip and not familiar with the area - make sure that you have directions before you leave.  I had completely forgotten to look up directions...and one of my roommates (I really blame myself!) kept giving directions and stating that the road we needed was the one that was closed for construction...so, we kept driving - into Kansas.  Although we drove for another 15 minutes, nothing looked familiar and there was no signs advertising the ren fair.  I finally decided to stop at a gas station and get directions and/or a map (Just my luck - the attendant had no idea about the ren fair).  Luckily, a customer happened to know where we needed to go and gave us directions.  (I should note here that I was in a bitchy mood most of the day!)  After receiving directions - which just happened to be the exact way we were going - I took every opportunity to point out to my roommate that he would have gotten us more lost (if you are reading this - sorry...like I said, I was being a bitch ).  About another 10 minutes later, we were finally there.

If you have never been to a ren fair, I strongly recommend that you attend one.  They are a great way to spend a full day no matter who you are.  They have numerous entertaining shows, delicious food, and many things to spend money on.  While we went to a couple of shows, I enjoyed shopping around and eating.  Although there was much to choose from, I finally decided to purchase a leather book cover - probably for my sketch pad.  Ohhh....the food!  I was surrounded my funnel cakes, kettel corn, turkey legs, fried ice cream, and sooo much more.  I was able to control myself and only munched on some potato skins and a bread bowl filled with chicken pot pie (I thank the St. Louis Bread Company for this feat - I chowed down on some asiago cheese bagels and a iced hazelnut bravae (?)before the fair and it really filled me up.)

Earlier today, I went and saw Wallace and Gromit with Lacey.  I give this movie 5 stars and 2 thumbs up - it is a great movie!  So, what are you doing still reading this...get thee to a movie theater and see it.  Go...I mean it.  I need to go read some more of The Chronicles of Narnia...Later.

After a bit of searching.

I just finished my last exam for my last college course - Introduction to Mythology.  I can't believe that I am now officially done with college!  HAPPY!!!!  Of course, it only took me 10 years to finish...but I did!  For anyone wondering how it could take so long - it is called switching majors.  I originally was going for a degree in actuarial science...within a semester I changed majors.  I have attempted majoring in Math, Education (wtf was I thinking???), Accounting, Computer Science, and I finally decided and finished with Forensic Science.  Time to start celebrating...craziness to ensue.

Ahhh...It is a wonderful, lazy Saturday…or so it was.  I actually started writing this on Saturday, but I got interrupted.  Looking back on my few posts, I realize that I have not mentioned religion...partly because I do not wish to be stoned to death.  So, why am I mentioning it now?  Well, there are some things I want to get off my chest...and I was reminded of it by a random quiz I took.  So, here goes...

My Family - most of my family have become religious following the death of my Grandmother last year.  While they held religious beliefs before her death, they didn't associate with the church (excluding weddings and funerals).  While I think this is perfectly acceptable - my parents, my Mother in particular, feel that they have let my brother and me down.  She didn't raise us in the church because she went to church regularly and used to look at it as a chore.  So, she exposed us to some ideas and tried to raise us with good morals, without us growing to hate church.

Fast forward to 2005 – I don’t go to church, although I have tried. I attempted to “find God” – both with Michelle and my family.  At the beginning of this year I thought that I would go to church with Michelle – and that maybe it would help me deal with my Grandmothers death.  Both my Grandmother and my Aunt Pat have died recently – and I truly want to believe that they are in a better place, so to encourage this belief I tried going to church.  I really thank Michelle for going with me – because I don’t know if I could have done it alone.  So, what became of church?  Well, I immediately felt guilty…here I was sitting in church with people that have ‘found God’…all I could think about was how I didn’t belong.  These people believe that there is a God, a heaven, and a hell – they have faith in God and everything in the Bible.  I couldn’t keep going there because I don’t have faith…I don’t believe that God definitely exists. While I would love to have this faith, I am too scientific – I need to have proof.  So here I sit and ponder – what happens after death?  Are we judged and sent to a heaven or hell?  Are we reborn?  Do our souls simply wander the Earth?  Or do we cease to exist?  I don’t know…and the only way to find out is through death – which is hopefully many years from now.

I am not sure how much sense this all makes…I just typed as I thought.  I am just glad to get this off my chest.

It's Geek to me

  • Mood: Sleepy
  • Movie of the moment: TV - The Late Late Show...or something like that
  • Quote: Diet Coke

I will be the first to admit...I am a geek.  I love J.R.R. Tolkien, know what a d20 is (and I am not afraid to use it), got the Harry Potter book on its release date - at midnight, went to the "Dear Friends" Final Fantasy concert in Chicago, dressed as a Star Wars character - both for halloween and for the premiere of one of the movies, named my cat after an anime character, got excited when I found out John Crichton joined the Stargate team,...oh, and did I mention...I am 28 years old!  This is the life I have chosen...and I like it.

I must say...my weakness is Star Wars.  Growing up, my brother and I always played with our Star Wars action figures.  I used my Luke Skywalker shampoo and even dressed up as Luke for Halloween when I was a little girl...thats right 'Luke' - I didn't want to be the DID.  For birthdays, my Mom and Aunt Pam made my cousins and me cakes decorated with Star Wars action figures.  I eventually 'grew out of it'...and was fine until I heard that Lucas was re-releasing the original trilogy.  James, a high school and college friend, and I went to each of the premieres - and enjoyed most of it (excluding the Jabba scene).  Since then, Lucas keeps releasing or re-releasing things that I feel I must buy.  While browsing the web, I found that he is releasing ANOTHER box set of the trilogy.  As far as I can tell, there is nothing new - just another way for Lucas to make money.  GRRRRRR!!!!

So, here is where I draw the line!  I may play SW tabletop.  I may own all the movies - including the horrid episodes 1 and 2.  I will buy episode 3!  I even own action figures...but I will NOT buy this new package of the same old thing...hopefully.

OH...almost forgot:

Scary!!! Heard on talk radio - even though I hate listening to the conservative BS.

Well, time for bed....yay!  More geekiness to follow.

A good thing

  • Mood: Weird

I have now seen two movies in the past two nights - that is the most I have seen in theatre in awhile.  Years ago I could be found at a movie theatre all weekend - now, I can barely afford one a month.  I know that I am not the only one that hates the commercials they play before the movies.  I have decided that every brand/company that shows commercials, I will not buy anything from them. The previews are ok - I enjoy seeing what is going to be in theatres.  In fact, the preview that I have been waiting to see - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - was shown tonight...YAY!!!  I have decided to give a brief review of any movie I see.  Although I don't intend to share any spoilers - I may, but I plan to put a warning before it.  So, the two movies I have seen recently are Corpse Bride and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Last night Michelle, 4 of her coworkers, and myself went and saw The Exocism of Emily RoseIn case anyone was wondering the events 'are based on an actual story' - Anneliese Michel.  I personally thought the movie had a slow pace and it reminded me of a 2 hours long episode of Law & Order.  There were several spots that had people jumping out of their seats, but don't go to see this if you are expecting a 'classic' horror film.  The religious aspect had Michelle and me conversing - she is a Catholic and I am not very religous at all.  I can't really discuss my opinoins too much, without giving it away...so, I will end it here.   My rating of the movie - 3/5 stars - if you are going to see it...either bring your student ID or go to the matinee.

Tonight I went and saw Corpse Bride with Lacey, Clint, and Jeremy.  I really enjoyed the movie.  The claymation is really well done - and is definately Tim Burton.  This is the first movie in months that had me laughing out loud!  My only problems with the movie: it was too short and it was kind of predictable.  All in all, I give it 4/5 stars - if you are not a Tim Burton fan, then don't see it - if you are a Tim Burton fan, then don't expect to compare it to A Nightmare Before Christmas.    There are two sites linked to the movie that are cute - if anyone is interested.

Well that is my   worth.

Trying to get in a good mood...and what comes on the radio, but "King of Broken Hearts"!

This week has been going fairly well.  Wednesday was my birthday and I was sure it was going to suck.  I went through work and did not get one "Happy Birthday"...and then, driving home from work, I checked my voice mail.  My Mom and Dad had called to wish me (and sing to me) a happy birthday.  The message really did bring a smile to my face.  My Mom sang Happy Birthday and then gave the phone to my Dad - who didn't sing, because he didn't want to scare me.  I love my family.  I almost forgot to mention that my brother Tim, Michelle, and Lacey all called to wish me a Happy Birthday - thanks...it really put me in a better mood.

I have decided to post a list of 'What I want to do before I die' here - a checklist or humor...I don't know.  But I will do some of it...so, here it is:

  1. Go Skydiving (definately can't let my family know about this one).
  2. Fly in a commercial plane (I flew over the Grand Canyon in a little personal plane - it was fun, but a bit scary.  I think they quit doing it because too many had crashed.  If anyone knows whether or not this is true, please post.)
  3. Go to a Con (A convention - yes...I am a geek...and I want to go to a sci-fi or a comic con)
  4. Get a Tatoo.
  5. Get a Siberian Husky.
  6. Learn different languages - currently working on Japanese.
  7. Write a book - the least likely entry on the list.
  8. Take an art class.
  9. Lose weight.
  10. Move to Chicago.
  11. Get a job in my field (Forensic Science - a lab tech)
  12. Try to make a Family Tree - find out who my ancestors are...and who they were.
  13. Get a massage (Get your mind out of the gutter!)
  14. Fire a gun.
  15. Try Sushi (Supposed to do this next weekend).
  16. Visit New York City and go up into the Statue of Liberty.
  17. Travel the World!!!

Quick question to any and all visitors...If you could have dinner with any 3 people in history who would they be?

Another Monday

  • Mood: blah
  • Movie of the moment: Queen of the Damned soundtrack

Another Monday has come and gone...another day of procrastination for me.  My Mythology paper is due tomorrow at midnight and I have barely started it.  I don't know why I do this.  With each task, paper, and chore; I tell myself that I will get it done and out of the way.  Time passes till the project or assignment is due and I am in a rush to get it done.  Today I spent another day playing on Photoshop and only got one piece 'finished' - I did a drawing of one of my roommates (I plan on putting it in my gallery at some point - unless my roommate throws a fit).

OK - now I must kill my roommate - the other one.  He was just talking about his job.  Before I begin, I should state that both of my roommates have the 'ideal' job.  They get paid to work overnights at a hotel.  Although they must deal with many annoying guests, they get to watch Adult Swim and play video games all night.  The roommate that I am about to kill is complaining about not getting to watch a couple of his favorite shows.  Meanwhile, I get to rise from bed in the early morning and go to work as a data entry/ support staff - where the highlight of my days are my two 15 minute breaks and a lunch.  GRRRR!!!!!  At least I get vacation/sick time!

Time for this girl to get some sleep so she can be wide awake to panic tomorrow.

  • Movie of the moment: The Beatles - Help

I have been off work for 3 hours...I was going to do laundry and work on my school work.  I have accomplished nothing!!!!  I have been on photoshop just doodling and experimenting with the many features.  If anyone likes to draw as much as I do, I recommend iSketch - check my links on the side.  Well, at least my mood as dramatically improved since I got off work.  I tend to get bad thoughts at work - I seem to be surrounded by idiots.  The girl that sits closest to me can't seem to figure her job out - and consistently asks me for help, even though my job has nothing to do with hers!   I still can't believe that the girl I trained didn't know what I meant by 'space bar'.  Is it just me?  Or do we seem to de-evolving.  My spelling may be another indication - it is horrible! OK...enough about work and my lovely grammer....on to...

One of the pictures I created:

I have been on a bit of a Japanese kick lately - I love the language, the art, the history...and of course the ANIME!!!  For those laughing, I stick my tongue out at you!!!

Next week is premiere week for several of my shows!  I have a bit of a problem...so I am going to try and cut back this year - limiting myself to at least NCIS.

I do have a deeper side, but I am new here...so stick with me.
